see more over at designtaxi.comPoland-based artist Iwona Przybyla threaded string through sheets of paper to create a book that ‘pops-up’ letters of the alphabet. The typography book, entitled ‘Kąt 90 stopni (90 degrees)’, each of 26 letters of the English alphabet were sewn with light and dark blue string—so that when the book opened at 90-degrees at any page, a 3D letter would appear. Each letter is “designed in such a way that each of its letters can be displayed in a three-dimensional space,” Przybyla wrote.

Inspired by the subtlety of tone on tone signage and the shadow-play of 3 dimensional letterforms. Recreating this effect with paper - a material so beautifully tactile and simple yet often mindlessly discarded. The time invested in each piece gives a sense of permanence to the material.
The works are created by hand-plotting and multiple sheets of 80gsm 100% post consumer waste recycled paper - minimizing the impact of paper consumption and consciously transforming a typically disposable medium into a long term piece of art.
