RIDE, RISE, ROAR is a David Byrne concert film directed by David Hillman Curtis that blends riveting onstage performances with intimate details of the creative collaborations that make the music and show happen.

Shot with multiple cameras over several concerts during the 08/09 tour, the film blends the energy and charisma of classic Talking Heads with the heartfelt pathos of David Byrne and Brian Eno’s most recent collaboration.

Between the 14 live songs, the film achieves an unprecedented intimacy with David Byrne and the band, documenting behind-the-scenes auditions, rehearsals, and interviews with key players while revealing the creative process that led to the show's unique fusion of pop music and modern dance.

RIDE, RISE, ROAR celebrates Byrne’s extensive career as a musician and testifies to the creativity that keeps him going today.

The ICA is proud to present Memory Cloud by Minimaforms, an incredible transient light environment set to transform London's Trafalgar Square in October. Memory Cloud is based on smoke signals - one of the oldest forms of visual communication, for three nights the public will be invited to participate by sending text messages that will be grafted onto plumes of smoke. Fusing ancient and contemporary forms of communication, Memory Cloud creates a dynamic hybrid space that will project personal statements as part of an evolving text, animating the built environment through conversation. The method of textual inscription works with light as virtual ink that perceptually writes and erases through a cinematic interplay with the external environment. Memory Cloud aims to motivate social interaction through the construction of an environment that is given form through a collective act of writing space.



Minimaforms: was founded in 2002 by brothers Stephen and Theodore Spyropoulos as an experimental architecture and design practice that explores projects that provoke and facilitate new means of communication.

About the Artists

Theodore Spyropoulos directs the architecture and design practice Minimaforms, co-directs the Architectural Association Design Research Lab and is a visiting research fellow at MIT. He has taught at UPENN and Royal College of Art and has previously worked with the offices of Peter Eisenman and Zaha Hadid Architects. He is pursuing a PhD at the Bartlett School of Architecture.

Stephen Spyropoulos directs the architecture and design practice Minimaforms. He is the Design Director for Heavy [New York] and is a faculty design member of Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University. He has directed projects for clients such as Samsung Interactive, Matador Records, The Beggars Group, and XL Records.

On a cold Saturday in New York City, the world’s largest train station came to a sudden halt. Over 200 Improv Everywhere Agents froze in place at the exact same second for five minutes in the Main Concourse of Grand Central Station. Over 500,000 people rush through Grand Central every day, but today, things slowed down just a bit as commuters and tourists alike stopped to notice what was happening around them.
