by R27 CREATIVELAB on Tuesday 9 June 2009

Melodesigns is a partnership between design consultant Chris Kane and artist Luiz Melo. We offer a bespoke Interior Decoration Service and a dramatic range of hand painted decorative art. They work in the residential and commercial market and are just as happy to discuss very individual projects.

Who are the main faces behind this?
Artist Luiz Melo and Interior Designer Chris Kane

Chris Kane - Design Consultant. Chris has been working in the interiors market for the past five years.
With a twelve year background in fashion and business management working for international brands including Arcadia and Jigsaw,he took his creative and business skills and applied them to interiors. Chris spent three years as Brand Manager of a successful independant furniture retailer, and has been working with his own private clients offering a design consultation service over the past two years.

Luiz Melo - The artist. Luiz Melo was born and educated in Minas Gerais in south west Brazil where he learnt to draw and paint, inspired by his natural vibrant surroundings. He began experimenting with water colours and charcoal on canvas constantly developing his technique and inspirations from landscape scenes from his childhood to more abstract appreciations of landscape and colour itself. Luiz moved to London 10 years ago and began developing his own abstract marbling technique working primarliy with glass. His work represents his personal vibrancy and sensitivity, reflecting his Latin American passion for intense colour. The current range of unique decorative objects epitomise Luiz Melo's relationship with art as freedom, the freedom of things to choose what they will become and to form and name themselves...

What got you involved?
Luiz Melo- since moving to the UK from Brazil in 2000, I simply decided to follow my dream to be an artist
Chris Kane- became involved in the interiors market in 2004 after a career change and decided to study part time.

Individual Background?
Chris Kane - Raised in Scotland, moved to London in 1996, had a 12 year career in business management in the retail sector before becoming involved in interiors
Luiz Melo - Brazilian, studied and taught linguistics in Barzil before relocating to London in 2000

Funny Stories?
From as early as 8 or 9 Chris was rearranging his Mum's furniture and accessories and painting his bedroom all sorts of colours...

Inspiration?
Luiz remembers one time as a small child in the Brazilian countryside being fascinated by the colours and shapes of some petrol he saw floating on a puddle. Interestingly it was this memory that was the spark that made him develop his unique style of marbling with paint.

The current range of unique decorative objects epitomises Luiz's relationship with art as freedom, the freedom of things to choose what they will become and to form and name themselves.

" I let paint and matter flow through and over one another , the individual form and shape of each object and each drop of paint deciding what their union will create." Luiz Melo

Chris Kane- "I believe that we are all creating in some way all of the time. I think doing this in a home environment can be a very grounding experience and where better to feel that than in your home. There is energy in everything, colour, shapes, balancing and flow of space, so your environment can be a place that sustains your own to inspire you to keep on creating, to keep moving forward, which for me is the essence of life."

Hopes?
To work full time for ourselves and keep adding to the scope of our business. To have our own shop selling Luiz'z artwork and Chris's design consultation services

Future works?
Watch this space...who knows!!

Do you have any exhibitions planned ?
Just attended and exhibitted an event in Hampshire with seven other specialist retailers, a great response with several sales and private comissions
